Mold grows from tiny spores. These spores are always present in the atmosphere and in your home. They’re usually microscopic and harmless. However, when they find their preferred conditions, they grow very quickly and manifest as mold. The preferred conditions are darkness, warmth, and moisture. These conditions can be reached in many different ways. The most common issues are pipe leaks, burst pipes, and floods. If there has been something obvious such as a flood or a burst pipe, you need ot definitely call a disaster recovery specialist. If it is a leaky pipe, it might not be so obvious. You should look for signs of moisture in your walls. You should also look for signs of mold sickness.
1 — Respiratory Illness
Respiratory difficulties are one of the most common signs that you might have mold sickness. Mold is microscopic and floats very easily on currents in the air. It can float on your air conditioning currents or just the wind created by someone walking past you. Furthermore, if you don’t have a HEPA filter on your HVAC system, the central unit will just circulate it around. Those who have respiratory vulnerabilities such as asthma or allergies will likely experience problems first.
If you or someone in your house is having respiratory difficulties, you will likely sweep and clean your home. You’ll probably change your filters as well. If none of that alleviates the problem, it’s a sign there might be mold in your home.
2 — Brain Fog
Brain fog is sometimes difficult to define. It is generally a range of conditions that you might experience if you have mold in your house. It might be lightheadedness, dizziness, or light sensitivity. It might feel as if everything is distant, muffled, or even unreal. You might have a hard time focusing or doing any complex thinking. All of this could be a sign of a head injury, lack of sleep, or a range of other problems. It is also a sign of mold sickness, though.
3 — Vertigo
Vertigo can encompass feelings of dizziness as well as a sensation that the room is spinning. These can be signs of some kind of brain illness. They can also be signs of mold illness.
These three things are not in and of themselves proof of mold sickness. They’re symptoms that are fairly common. They should be treated as data points. For example, if you have been experiencing brain fog and your basement flooded recently, those two data points might steer you towards mold in your home.
